The short version. There are no accounts, no ads, no analytics and no tracking. We don't sell or share anything about you. We collect nothing about you unless you choose to register for a Manitya Circle gathering or send us a suggestion, and then only what you type into that form (details below).
When you talk to Mann, your words pass through our server to an AI service so Mann can reply. Our server doesn't save them. If you want Mann to remember a conversation, it's kept only on your own device, and you can delete it there.
Who we are
Manitya is a not-for-profit, volunteer-built space for emotional wellbeing, based in Mumbai, India. You can reach us at hello@manitya.com.
What stays on your device
A few small things are saved in your browser (or in the app) so the site works the way you left it. They never leave your device:
- Your day/night colour choice, and whether the background sound is on.
- Your Mann conversations, only if you choose “yaad rakhun” (remember) when Mann asks. You can delete one conversation, or tap “sab kuch mita do” to delete them all. Clearing your browser data, or uninstalling the app, also removes them.
When you talk to Mann
- Mann is an AI, not a person. To write each reply, your message and the recent conversation are sent from our server to Anthropic, the company that makes the Claude AI model.
- Our server does not store your messages. It passes them on and forgets them. We don't read your conversations.
- Anthropic does not use these conversations to train its AI models. It may keep them for a limited time to check for misuse and keep its service safe, as described in Anthropic's privacy policy.
- Please don't include your full name, phone number, address or other details that identify you or someone else. Mann doesn't need them to listen.
What our server sees
Like every website, our server records basic technical details when a page is requested: your IP address, the page, the time and the type of browser. We use these only to keep the site running, secure and free of errors. They're deleted automatically after a short time, and we never use them to work out who you are. The server is in the EU (Hetzner).
Other services that load on our pages
- Google Fonts: our fonts load from Google, which sees your IP address when they do.
- Links you choose to follow (YouTube, Wikisource, archive.org and so on) take you to those sites, and their own privacy rules apply there.
- The volunteer form on our Get Involved page is a Google Form. Anything you enter there goes to Google and to us, and we use it only to reply to you about volunteering.
- Email: if you write to hello@manitya.com, we keep your email only to reply. Our email is hosted by Zoho.
Manitya Circle
If you register for a Manitya Circle gathering, we store the details you give us: your name, email address, the gathering you chose, and, only if you provide them, your mobile number and the short note about what brings you. We also record whether you ticked the optional box to hear about future gatherings, and when you registered. We use this only to run the gathering: to tell you the venue and details, to remind you, and to contact you if plans change. We use it for future gatherings only if you ticked that box. Please don't share health or other sensitive details in the note. It is visible only to the organisers, is never published, and is not shared with anyone else. Registrations are kept on our server only as long as we need them for this, and you can ask us to delete yours any time at hello@manitya.com. If you send a topic suggestion, we keep it (and your name and email, if you gave them) to plan future gatherings; we never publish it without asking.
The Android app
The app opens manitya.com inside a full-screen Chrome window. It collects nothing beyond what's described above. It asks for no permissions: no location, contacts, camera, microphone or notifications.
Age
Manitya is meant for adults (18+). If you're younger and going through something hard, please talk to a trusted adult, or call Tele-MANAS on 14416. They're free, 24×7, and they listen.
Your rights
We hold almost nothing about you, and anything kept on your device is yours to delete. If you've emailed us or filled in the volunteer form and want that removed, or have any question or complaint about privacy, write to hello@manitya.com. We'll reply within 30 days. This is also our grievance contact under India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023.
Changes
If this policy changes, we'll update this page and the date at the top.
